Two evening crashes caused by impaired drivers: Kingston Police


( Jan 9, 2018 - Kingston, ON ) Kingston Police are investigating two collisions which occurred in quick succession in Kingston's west end on Monday, January 8th.

 A 40-year-old local man has been arrested for impaired driving in the first such collision, after rear-ending another vehicle stopped for a red light on Princess Street.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. the accused rear ended a vehicle stopped for a red light at Princess Street and Midland Avenue.  Upon police arrival officers observed the accused walking unsteadily in the westbound lane. Officers learned the accused had been drinking at a nearby restaurant and made several observations the accused was impaired by alcohol.  

He was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he provided two breath samples. The accused was found to have a little under 3 times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

He was charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol and was later released with a future court date. His driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.

Shortly thereafter, a 33-year-old local man was arrested for impaired driving after allegedly running a red light and causing a collision. At approximately 10:00 p.m. a patrol officer came upon a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Gardiners Road and Cataraqui Woods Drive. A witness reported seeing the accused drive through a red light. The officer spoke with the accused and determined he was impaired be alcohol.
