Special weather statement in effect for Kingston


(Jan 10, 2018 - Kingston, ON) Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for:

  • Kingston - Odessa - Frontenac Islands
  • Napanee - Consecon
  • Picton - Sandbanks Park

Winter Travel Advisory for this evening.

An area of occasional rain and drizzle in moving across the regions. In some places, temperatures are locally touching zero giving freezing rain or freezing drizzle.

Some roads and sidewalks will become slippery until temperatures rise well above freezing later this evening. Caution is advised.

If travelling, be advised that a Freezing Rain Warning has been issued for Brockville, Sharbot Lake, Smiths Falls and Ottawa areas, where freezing rain is expected or occurring, with a band of freezing rain spreading eastward. Light freezing rain is spreading eastward across the regions and is expected to reach the Ottawa area by 6:00 PM. The freezing rain will become patchy later this evening.

Patchy freezing rain or freezing drizzle can be expected in the St. Lawrence Valley until after midnight, and in the Ottawa valley until early Thursday morning. Accumulations are forecast to range from 1 to 4 millimetres with the highest amounts in the Ottawa Valley. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
